What diversity and inclusion means to us, and why it’s important

‘Diversity is being invited to the party, inclusion is being able to dance how you want’

Having a diverse workforce is immensely important for your company. Not only does it lead to a higher productivity and better financial outcomes, it makes your company FUN! When you surround yourself with people of different genders, backgrounds, ages etc. you will be amazed by the different opinions, perspectives and ideas these individuals bring. This way, you allow current processes, practices, ways of working and products or services to be constantly challenged. This doesn’t only make your job more interesting, it also allows the organization to be more innovative and constantly adapt to the changing needs of customers.

Of course, diversity on its own will not directly lead to positive business outcomes. An inclusive culture is the prerequisite for a diverse workplace. It takes a nourishing company climate with respect, equality and positive recognition of differences for these diverse skills and qualities to flourish. An inclusive company climate involves listening to, and being heard by each other, no matter your gender, background or position. There needs to be room to experiment, and to make mistakes. If you don’t fail, you won’t learn. 

For example one of our key partners Future Females created a company climate that is open and welcomes and encourages everyone to be part of a global movement for female entrepreneurship. It is a climate that originated from the founders, then was nurtured by the team and all members involved globally. You could also say the climate draws people to the organization, because they naturally thrive in it. In this way Future Females knows what it takes to create an atmosphere for success for the organization itself and for their clients to benefit from. 

We create inclusive company climates of growth and endless possibilities. This helps employees explore their talents and cooperate instead of competing from a fixed mindset (versus an infinite mindset).

Different aspects of diversity

There are many aspects of diversity. For example cultural diversity, racial diversity, gender diversity, age diversity etc. The xGen primarily focuses on gender diversity. This is not because other types of diversity are not important. On the contrary! This is primarily because this is where our expertise lies. For the last few years we have been investing our time in increasing the success of female entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs. With organizing and hosting our community events, we inspire women and offer a space where they can connect and collaborate with each other, and access the resources they need to succeed.
